Die Welt is published as a German national daily newspaper, broadcast by Excel Springer SE. Die Welt was founded in 1946 by the British occupying forces in Hamburg, with the aim of providing the Times with a "quality magazine" to model. It primarily carried the editorial content of the news and the British perspective, but from 1944 onwards it adopted the policy of providing the main British and a German top two main articles. The magazine was purchased by Axel Springer in 1953.
