The Daily Observer

Basic Details

The Daily Observer is a newspaper published in Bacau, Banjul, Gambia.

The Gambia's first daily newspaper, Paper, was founded in 1990 by Ma Jin and Kenneth Best. Kenneth Best previously ran another paper, the Liberian Daily Observer, until the first Liberian civil war forced him to move to Gambia with his family. Best was expelled from the Gambia after Yahya Jameh's military coup in October 1994, although the newspaper was allowed to continue. It was finally closed by the tax authorities on 23 August 2017 for non-compliance with tax liability.
