Kansan Uutiset

Basic Details

Kansan Uutiset is a Finnish-language weekly published in Helsinki, Finland. It is the party organ of the Left Alliance. Kansan Uutiset was founded in 1957 as the joint body of the Communist Party of Finland (SKP) and the Finnish People's Democratic League (SKDL), both of which until then had their own newspapers, Työkansan Sanomat (SKP) and Vapaa Sana (SKDL). The Kansan Uutiset served the parties until their dissolution in 1990. The paper had close ties to the new left-wing alliance, which was founded in 1990, but did not declare itself an organ until 2000. In the 1990s, the Kansan Uutiset called itself an "independent left-wing paper".
