Fiji's Daily Post

Basic Details

The Fiji Daily Post (FDP) was a Fiji newspaper founded in October 1987 by Wame Wakanisanini, Jr., with a 50 percent stake. Taniela Boleya was the original publisher. Most of the shares were later owned by the Fijian government. The newspaper has suspended publication and has been closed since 2010.

The FDP has faced criticism since its inception in 1989 and its completion in 2010, as it represents the ultimate ethnic Fijian / Itauke perspective in Fiji's national discourse. The evidence for this conclusion is conclusive. No other newspaper in Fiji has tried to reach the cross section of the larger multiculturalism of the people as FDP by publishing in five different languages. The newspaper's staff has always been multi-ethnic, broad-based religious and political, and representative of both sexes. Considering the ideological aspects of the editorial staff, it is fair to assume that the FDI government, once taking a government role as a major partner in the press (late 1990s), was committed to the FDP official line, but again, this is an oversimplification of the facts. Compared to other major dailies in Fiji, FDP Content Analysis, Fiji Times and Fiji Sun do not carry it.
