Channel i

Basic Details

Channel I is a pay television network in Bangladesh owned by the country's largest textile solidarity Impress Group.

Impress Group moved out of textile production and into television in the early 1900s under Faridur Reza Sagor, who then worked independently and privately for Bangladesh Television (BTV). Early steps in television involved the installation of Impress Telefilm, which produced short mini-series and one-off shows for BTV.

Channel IT broadcasts pre-recorded programs 12 hours a day on October 1, 1999. Within two years of its official launch, Channel I started broadcasting 24 hours a day and became the first digital channel in Bangladesh.

Currently, Channel I competes with several other domestic satellite channels, including ATN Bangla, Ekushey TV and NTV. For the past decade, the channel has held the largest market share among non-worldly channels in Bangladesh.

It currently broadcasts satellite transmissions using PanAm Sat, which covers most of Asia and most of Australia.

IO Bangladesh is the first satellite channel to broadcast modern western-themed telefilms like Play, directed by M-SIB.

It was launched in September 2017 by Channel IHD, a sister company of Radio Land.

The Channel I Music Awards is an annual awards show hosted by the channel.
