Basic Details

Akhbar Al Khaleej is a daily publication in Bahrain. It is the sister paper of the English language daily Gulf Daily News. The first issue of Akhbar Al Khaleej was published on February 1, 1976. It is one of the oldest dailies in Bahrain. The first editor-in-chief and founder was Mahmoud al-Mardi, and his staff consisted mainly of Egyptian, Sudanese and Bahraini journalists.


Anwar Abdul Rahman was the head of the newspaper from 2006 to 2006. He also served as its editor-in-chief. The publisher is Dar Al Hilal, which also publishes the Gulf Daily News.


The daily is published in broadsheet format. The daily circulation in 1998 was 25,000 copies and in 2013 it was 37,000 copies.
