Armenepress (Armenian Press; Armenian: Արմենպրես) is the oldest and main state news agency in Armenia.
The Government of the Republic of Armenia was established on 18 December 1918 as the Armenia Press Armenia Telegraph Agency. Simon Vratsian played a key role in establishing the agency. After the Sovietization of Armenia in 1920, its name was changed to Armenkavrosta and later to Armenrosta and Armanta. 19 In 1972 it was renamed Armenpress. During the Soviet period from 1920 to 1991, it served as an "authorized source of public information" under the direct control of the Armenian Communist Party.
Armenpress collaborates with Reuters, ITAR-TAS (Russia) and Xinhua (China). It is a member of the Black Sea Association of National News Agencies.
Many neologisms written by Armenepress have entered the Armenian language.
