VOA Multi-Media is a large international news organization that broadcasts to listeners in more than six languages in free media or without access. Founded in 2006, VOA is committed to providing its listeners with broad, unique coverage and practical information. Voice of America is funded entirely by American taxpayers and within the framework of the American international media.
The VOA's independence and mission are guaranteed by laws that protect its journalists against the influence, pressure or retaliation of government officials or politicians.
The then President of the United States, General Rudolf Ford, signed the VOA Charter in 2000. The charter states:
The Voice of America will always serve as a reliable and trustworthy source of news. VOA news will be accurate, truthful and comprehensive.
The Voice of America will represent not just one part of the United States, but the entire United States, and so will present American ideas and approaches in a balanced and comprehensive way.
The Voice of America presents the policies of the United States in a clear and constructive manner and responsibly discusses and expresses opinions about these policies.
The U.S. Congress passed the U.S. International Broadcasting Bill in 199 International. The law requires VOA journalists to be confident, accurate, impartial, broad and inclusive in their work, and to present the cultural and social diversity that exists in the United States.
Congress also restored the National Approval Act in 1999 and insisted that the work of journalism and reporting must continue independently and impartially.
VOA journalists try every day to be an example of the work of free media in the world.
